The Complete Remastered Recordings on Black Saint & Soul Note. Thanks for taking the time and let me know what you think. Carla Bley / Andy Sheppard / Steve Swallow. Right now there are five compilations, each one focussing on on a major jazz label, so there’s Prestige, Blue Note, Savoy, Riverside and Contemporary for now. Two important notes: 1: there’s absolutely no commercial incentive involved here 2: the podcasts are a hundred percent non stop music, so no talking, jingles or add’s etc. But only if you think that’s appropriate. I thought, if you shared my enthusiasm, they perhaps could be linked somehow to your blogspot. Initially this was a project intended for Izaak, my son, who’s only two years old right now, but I think they’d be quite interesting for any true classic bop and hard bop jazz lovers. (Specifically the recent Roy DuNann piece.) So first of all: thanks for that! Secondly, the reason for me writing you is that I’ve been quite busy organizing my jazz collection and have compiled and uploaded a handful of homemade radio shows on the podcast platform Mixcloud. 1984 Textured Cover Original Featuring Weather Reports Great Percussionist, Manolo Badrena With Steve Slagle, Hiram Bullock. Heavy Heart is a progressive big band music album recording by CARLA BLEY released in 1984 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. Hi Steven, You don't know me - and I don't really know you, but I’ve been enjoying your Jazz Profiles blogspot for some time now. In short, Heavy Heart is a light, breezy album without being formulaic, and one which fabricates jazz-pop from evocations of the revived electric bands of Miles and Gil, Marvin Gaye's "Here, My Dear," and assorted sultry, sensuous tunes. The tunes are still Bley-like, hip and exquisite the harmonies elongated under the fluid, piping alto of Steve Slagle and the snorting, muscular trombone of Gary Valente (on "Ending It") the solos and arrangements always take an unusual turn a phrase or two before becoming predictable and Bley's ethnic sensibility takes the form of Latin lilts and tempo-altering shuffles. This is not to say that Heavy Heart is as unctuous as David Sancious or as vapidly, technically soulful as David Sanborn, but most of the indelible Bley trademarks have been skillfully manicured or excised. Carla Bley (born Lovella May Borg May 11, 1936) is an American jazz composer, pianist, organist and bandleader. Either answer coming from Bley the prankster could be a half-truth, but it is unquestionable that Heavy Heart tends toward the sentimental excesses of the New York studio scene rather than a bluesy, quirky reply to love, fulfilled or not. Grim was unfortunate enough to be stuck as the favorite target of Boogey the school bully, who enjoyed making the lives of the other students (Grim in particular) as miserable as possible. The list below represents the state of the directives as of level 2. Let's quickly walk through the rest of the resource directives. You've already seen script-src, so the concept should be clear. While script resources are the most obvious security risks, CSP provides a rich set of policy directives that enable fairly granular control over the resources that a page is allowed to load. Policy applies to a wide variety of resources # When a clever attacker manages to inject code into your site, they'll run headlong into an error message rather than the success they were expecting. With this policy defined, the browser simply throws an error instead of loading script from any other source. The browser dutifully downloads and executes JavaScript from over HTTPS, as well as from the current page's origin. We've specified 'self' as one valid source of script, and as another. Simple, right? As you probably guessed, script-src is a directive that controls a set of script-related privileges for a specific page. Since we trust to deliver valid code, and we trust ourselves to do the same, let's define a policy that only allows script to execute when it comes from one of those two sources: Content-Security-Policy : script-src 'self' Even if an attacker can find a hole through which to inject script, the script won't match the allowlist, and therefore won't be executed. Instead of blindly trusting everything that a server delivers, CSP defines the Content-Security-Policy HTTP header, which allows you to create an allowlist of sources of trusted content, and instructs the browser to only execute or render resources from those sources. The browser happily downloads and executes any code a page requests, regardless of source. We trust that code, but we can't expect the browser to figure out on its own that code from is awesome, while code from probably isn't. For example, the Google +1 button at the bottom of this page loads and executes code from in the context of this page's origin. The issue exploited by XSS attacks is the browser's inability to distinguish between script that's part of your application and script that's been maliciously injected by a third-party. Report policy violations to your server before enforcing them.Inline code and eval() are considered harmful.Use allowlists to tell the client what's allowed and what isn't.This overview highlights a defense that can significantly reduce the risk and impact of XSS attacks in modern browsers: Content Security Policy (CSP). We'd obviously like to prevent that if possible. If an attacker successfully injects any code at all, it's pretty much game over: user session data is compromised and information that should be kept secret is exfiltrated to The Bad Guys. The XSS Cheat Sheet is an old but representative cross-section of the methods an attacker might use to violate this trust by injecting malicious code. This is a huge problem, as browsers trust all of the code that shows up on a page as being legitimately part of that page's security origin. In practice, attackers have found clever ways to subvert the system.Ĭross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, for example, bypass the same origin policy by tricking a site into delivering malicious code along with the intended content. Each origin is kept isolated from the rest of the web, giving developers a safe sandbox in which to build and play. Code from should only have access to 's data, and should certainly never be allowed access. The web's security model is rooted in the same-origin policy. Policy applies to a wide variety of resources. Players who have villages or towns around them receive resources. If the sum of the two dice is not 7, the squares with this number produce. Those resources allow players to strengthen their economy and eventually win the game. In Catan, players try to develop their colony as fast as possible, by building roads, villages and towns.Įach village and town produces resources (brick, lumber, wool, grain, ore) depending on the grounds that surround them and the dice good fortune. competition to get the best spots firstĬatan is both a tactical and strategical game, with a strong "social" component. The most interesting thing about Catan is the permanent interaction between players: Catan is widely regarded as the game that put board games back in the spotlight. With 20 million copies sold since it was first published by Kosmos in 1995, Catan is the biggest best-seller among modern board games. While the global economy spirals downward, the company says sales skyrocketed by 144% for the first five months of this year.Game designer: Klaus Teuber Game description In my opinion, part of the success is that women play together in the family with their husbands and with their children."Īs families shelter in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, sales of Catan have climbed. I think these are actually factors that women like. Teuber has a theory about why the game became so popular. Catan sales surged after it was released in the United States in 1996 and continued upward, prompting him to quit his day job. Sales didn't taper off after a few years, as with his previous award-winning games. When it was released in Germany in 1995 - as Die Siedler von Catan - it was an instant hit. It took him nearly four years to reduce the game to a single island ready to be explored and developed by players (the sea exploration segment was later sold as an expansion of the original game). The first draft "was very big," he says, and it included multiple islands and ships filled with settlers exploring new lands. And this gave me the idea to create a game of exploration and of settling," he says. "I was fascinated that they sailed the open sea and explored new lands like Iceland, Greenland or America, and in my imagination I considered what will they do when they come to Iceland? They'll need wood, they'll need to harvest food. Then, in the early 1990s, inspired by the history of the Vikings and the Age of Discovery. His first games did well: He won three Spiel des Jahres awards, a coveted prize in the board game industry. It is a board game of trade and development where players compete for resources in a race to build settlements, cities and roads. "That was the very first step for the later development of Catan," he says.Ĭatan, once known as The Settlers of Catan, would become Teuber's masterpiece. He remembers playing it by himself, pitting one army against the other over a pretend-landscape of rivers, plains and mountains that he had fashioned at his family's home in Rai-Breitenbach, a German village located at the foot of a castle and surrounded by forest. "It was a tabletop game with wonderful painted figures, and you had to role the dice to fight against the others," Teuber recalls. It was a game of Romans versus Carthaginians. "Ah, so wonderful! There is adventure in this box!" "When I opened the box of the game, I liked the scent of the game," he remembers, inhaling deeply. In 1963, 11-year-old Klaus Teuber received a gift that would change his life: a board game. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the game's launch, the elder Teuber has released an autobiography, My Way to Catan.
